Privacy Policy
What this site collects, which cookies it sets, and your rights under Canadian privacy law. Short, because there is genuinely very little of it.
In one paragraph
MapleBird is a publisher, not a gambling operator. We do not have accounts, we do not take deposits, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from visitors. We set three small cookies to make the site work — an age confirmation, your cookie choice and your language preference. We use Google Analytics to count visits. Until you press Accept it runs in a cookieless mode: it sets nothing on your device and cannot recognise you or connect one visit to the next. Press Accept and it sets the two analytics cookies listed below; press Reject and it stays cookieless and is switched off entirely.
1. Who we are
This policy covers maplebirdhouse.ca and applies to the personal information we handle as a Canadian publisher, in line with the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and, where they apply, provincial privacy statutes including Québec’s Law 25.
Publisher: insert the legal entity name, registered address and, if one is appointed, the privacy officer’s contact details before launch. Privacy enquiries: editorial@maplebirdhouse.ca.
2. What we collect
Information you give us
Only what you send us. If you email us a correction or a complaint, we hold your message and address for as long as it takes to deal with it and to keep a record of the correction. We have no account system, no newsletter and no forms that collect personal data.
Information collected automatically
Our web server keeps standard access logs — IP address, timestamp, page requested, referrer and user agent — which are used for security and to diagnose faults. Logs are retained for a limited period and are not used to build a profile of you.
3. Cookies
| Cookie | Purpose | Type | Lifetime |
|---|---|---|---|
mb_age_ok | Records that you confirmed you are of legal gambling age, so the notice is not shown again. | Strictly necessary | Session — cleared when you close the browser |
mb_consent | Records your accept or reject choice so we do not ask again. | Strictly necessary | 180 days |
mb_lang | Records whether you prefer the English or French version. | Preference | 365 days |
_ga, _ga_L3LQCSXGHH | Google Analytics 4. Distinguishes one visitor from another so we can count visits and see which pages are read. Set only if you press Accept, and deleted if you later press Reject. | Optional — analytics | Up to 2 years |
We use no localStorage for any of this. Rejecting optional cookies leaves the site fully functional — the reject button is real, not a slower path to the same outcome. The analytics script is present on every page, but it is held in a cookieless state until you accept, so rejecting means Google never receives anything that identifies you or your device. You can clear cookies at any time in your browser settings, which resets all of the above.
4. Third parties
Outbound links marked as sponsored take you to a gambling operator’s own site. Once you follow one, that operator’s privacy policy applies and ours does not. The tracking parameter in an affiliate link tells the operator the visit came from MapleBird; it does not tell us who you are.
Google Analytics 4 (measurement ID G-L3LQCSXGHH) is the only third-party service on this site. It loads on every page under Google Consent Mode v2 with storage denied by default, which means that before you accept it records a page view with no cookie and no visitor identifier. Accepting turns on storage; rejecting disables it. Either way Google receives your IP address — truncated, because IP anonymisation is enabled — along with the page you are on, your approximate location, browser and device. Google acts as our processor and may store that data outside Canada. Its handling is governed by Google’s privacy policy. We have not enabled Google Signals, advertising personalisation or data sharing for advertising purposes.
Beyond that, the site loads no third-party fonts, embeds, social widgets or advertising networks. Fonts are self-hosted and every other script is first-party.
5. Your rights under PIPEDA
- Access — ask what personal information we hold about you.
- Correction — ask us to correct anything inaccurate.
- Withdrawal of consent — withdraw consent for optional cookies at any time by clearing cookies or rejecting when asked.
- Deletion — ask us to delete correspondence we hold, subject to any legal retention requirement.
- Complaint — complain to us at editorial@maplebirdhouse.ca, and to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada if you are not satisfied. Residents of Québec, Alberta and British Columbia may also complain to their provincial commissioner.
We aim to respond to any request within 30 days.
6. Children
This site is intended for adults of legal gambling age in their province — 19 in most, 18 in Alberta, Manitoba and Québec. It is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under the legal age. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
7. Security and retention
The site is served over HTTPS. Correspondence is held only as long as needed to deal with it and to maintain a corrections record. Server logs are retained for a limited period for security and diagnostics. No system is perfectly secure, and we do not claim otherwise.
8. Changes to this policy
Material changes will be reflected here with an updated review date. This page was last reviewed on .
Publisher: review before launch
This policy is written to describe the site as built — three first-party cookies plus Google Analytics under Consent Mode v2, storage denied until accepted, and no other third-party requests. If you add advertising, a newsletter, a heatmap tool or any further embedded service, this policy must be updated to match before that service goes live. It also needs your legal entity name and registered address, and should be reviewed by a lawyer familiar with PIPEDA and Québec’s Law 25.
